Contents page analysis

This is a contents page for a music magazine. It looks quite aesthetically pleasing and the colours used are quite bright and friendly. They have some quite short but fairly descriptive captions for the different pages. This is good as it does not end up boring the reader as they keep it quite short and straight to the point. They have a few images of some of the main articles in the magazine which could interest the reader into getting the magazine and reading it, if they see an artist that they like. They have set it out so that it doesn't look like there is just a block of text, but instead spread it around images and things so that it doesn't seem like as much writing but as more of an image based page which is what people want these days as many people don't have time to read huge ammounts of text and just want to skim through and see a story from the images the magazine has of it.

Also, some of your posts are a bit brief. Try to write in more detail. Your title block design for example - say which you will use and why. Try to treat your blog as a diary of progress. Also, try to post more images to make your blog more visual.

My mastheads

Masthead review

The masthead for clash is one that is fairly different from the majority of other mastheads. It is in black which isn’t seen very often as you want a color that will stand out and catch the reader’s attention however black still does this though I don’t think as successfully. The text is flowing and in my opinion looks good.

NME has a more typical masthead. It is in bright red which will jump off the page at you as soon as you see it. The white and black outline of this helps it as the colors contrast with eachother. It is in block capitals which is again fairly normal for a music magazine but still has the effect of standing out.
The masthead for Q is very different from most others. It is a single letter which is very abrupt but it doesn't really tell us anything about the magazine like, for example NME, does. It again has alot of red, as we see on alot of mastheads but if you look at a magazine and see that it only has a 1 letter masthead you are going to be intrigued.

Key conventions of a music magazine

The masthead- The masthead is a feature that every music magazine will have. It is the large title, or name of the magazine, which is usually at the top of the page.
A large image of the main featured band-they will always have a large image of their main featured band/artist in that edition of the magazine on the front cover, bigger than everything else that’s there. This is used to grab readers’ attention as it may be an artist that they like which could make them more inclined to buy the magazine.
Cover lines- cover lines are the smaller text on the page, basically anything that isn’t the masthead. It is telling you about stuff that is going to come in the magazine and giving you more of a general insight into what this edition of the magazine is about.
They will always have eye-catching colours on the cover of the magazine. This is to catch peoples attention if they are just looking through a selection of magazines and make them more likely to notice and therefore buy the magazine.

They always have a bar code, so it is an actual magazine that is valid and not a fake one.

They always have the date issued so that you don't accidentally buy an old issue by accident or if you're searching for a specific magazine, you will be able to find it by its date.

The setting of this photo is in the college and they are making it appear that it is a nice place to be as the person in the picture is smiling.

The lighting that is used makes her face look almost glowing which reflects well on the college. It is a very light colour which makes it seem like a calm place as the lighting is not too hard but it isn’t dark

The costume I just normal clothes so it looks quite layed back and relaxed which would make people more inclined to go because they wont have a lot of pressure on them when they are there.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of non verbal communication in this picture, however, the girl in the picture does seem to be very happy which makes the person reading this think that the people who go to that college are also happy.

There aren’t many props used in this magazine cover apart from the globe situated at the front of the picture which could represent learning or that they are accepting of people from anywhere around the world. There are also some plants in the picture which make it seem like it could be an environmentally friendly school. The chair that the girl is sitting in looks like a comfortable chair which makes the college seem quite inviting and friendly as the person sitting in it seems quite happy and content.
